Obituary

Wynolia "Nola" Oliver was born March 5, 1933, in Malone, Texas. She was the daughter of David Carter Lillard and Susie Stokes Lillard. Nola passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Irving, TX. Nola grew up on a farm near Waco and was one of 10 kids. She had long hard days working in the fields during the summer and couldn't wait until school started so she could leave that work behind. Christmas was always a special time for her and her siblings as they each received fruit in their stockings along with some ribbon candy. As a child, Nola had a pet pig that would follow her around the fields on their farm. One day, "Porky" disappeared. It's strange that fresh bacon was on the table for breakfast later that week. In high school, Nola played softball as a catcher and was in the drama club where she was a star. She was the "Harvest Queen" of their fall activities. She married Thomas Oliver on September 25, 1953. They had three children: Rhonda, Rod, and Greg, and two grand children: Lanaya and Race. Nola loved to bowl and her team was the "Pin Queens". She started playing in a tennis league in her late 30's. She was very creative and enjoyed ceramics and making dolls. But, her real passion was playing table games. She was an expert Bridge player, as she won yearly championships. In her later years, you could always count on her for a family game of rummy or dominoes and always gave you a run for your money. Her competitive spirit drove her to be her best at all times. Nola was a social butterfly and loved being the center of attention. She surrounded herself with friends and always brought a smile on everyone's face. But, if you disagreed with her, she would definitely tell you that you are wrong, and wouldn't budge an inch. Nola will be deeply missed. We love you. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Lorena, TX. Rev Dennis King will officiate.
