Woody Southerland, 81, of Irving, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, September 6, 2013 surrounded by his family at his home . Born July 31, 1932 in Chickasha OK, he graduated from Chickasha High School in 1951. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1964. He served churches throughout Oklahoma and Louisiana, including Music Director for Trinity Baptist Church in Chickasha in 1953/1959; Music Director for First Baptist Church of Carnegie, OK from 1959-1961; Music/Education Minister at Parkland Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK 1961-1964; Education Minister at Arrow Heights Baptist in Broken Arrow from 1964-1965; Education Minister at Eastwood Baptist Church in Tulsa OK from 1965 to 1970; Administration/Education Minister at First Baptist Church Lafayette, LA from 1970 to 1973. He later was employed by Membership Services Inc. ( a record management company first located in Irving, specializing in Church Records specifically and other non-profit organizations) He had various roles with the company including sales representative in 1973; Sales Manager 1975-1977; Vice President in 1977; and General Manager from 1977 until his retirement on August 1, 2001. While at MSI he was responsible for developing several outreach programs using automated record management systems for churches among other projects. He married his beautiful wife Sandy Bennett Baer on November 18, 1989. He led conferences at the state level in Oklahoma and Louisiana and also at Glorieta and Ridgecrest. He was a member of the Singing Men of Texas; President of the Irving Healthcare Auxilliary from 2009-2011; and a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving since 1973 where he participated in the Joyful Noise Choir. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Southerland of Irving, Texas; son Kent Southerland and wife Betty of Irving, Texas; daughter Tracie Southerland and her partner Karen Bailey of Los Altos Hills, CA; son Mark Southerland and his wife Tricia of Austin, Texas; step daughter Susan Baer and partner Kelly Williams of Irving, TX; step Daughter Cinda Baer of Irving, TX; grandchildren, Jared Southerland and his fiance Ashley Perry, Caleb Southerland, Courtney Southerland and her husband Lee Goggin, Jaeden Bailey, Keaton Bailey, Aiden Southerland, Eva Mae Southerland, Seth Baer, Reid Malone; one great grandchild, Jace Goggin; sister in law, Pat Southerland; and the mother of his children, Jan McCormick. The family will received friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home. A graveside service was at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at Grove Hill Cemetery, 3920 Samuell Blvd. in Dallas with a memorial service that followed at 11:00 a.m. at Plymouth Park Baptist Church, 1714 North Story Road in Irving.
