Obituary

Vernon Perry Milburn, 74, a resident of Irving for more than 45 years, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Dallas, TX. Perry was born July 9, 1942 in Pecos, TX, the only child of Red and Lois Milburn. Perry completed active duty military training upon graduation from Abilene High School, after which returning to Abilene to attend college, he met the love of his life, Jane Ann Weir, on a blind date. Perry and Janie were married on May 27, 1967, the same year he graduated from McMurry University with a BBA. In his own words, though he was proud of his college degree, he was most proud to have Janie as his wife. They were expecting to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary one month to the day of his passing. Perry, a member of the U. S. Army National Guard, moved with his family to Irving, TX, in 1971 to work for Merchants Motor Lines. He worked managerial positions in the trucking industry for many years. After retiring from business administration, he went on to be the most requested driver with MGM Transportation, heralded by his clients as a true Southern gentleman. Perry was a friend to everyone he met. He was a skilled handyman, quick to help neighbors, family, and friends. He was known for his manicured lawn and his impeccable dress, for his carpentry and mechanical abilities, for his hospitality and love of cooking. He will be long remembered for his wit, charm, and genuine social graces, for his stories and his creative talents, and for his warm heart and helping hand. Perry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janie, of Irving, TX; son Matt of Denver, CO; son Mark, and wife Renae, and grandchildren Grayson and Jaden of Dallas, TX, and daughter Marci Tamplen, and husband Randy, and grandchildren Avery and Tad of Corinth, TX. A memorial service will be held at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway, Irving, TX, 75062, at 12 noon, on Monday, May 1, 2017. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimers Association: www.alz.org SERVICES
