Thomas Wesley "Skip" Covington, age 72, passed away peacefully December 6, 2020 in Irving, Texas. He was born April 1948 in San Angelo, TX to Lt. Col (USAF) and Mrs. Harold Covington. Skip spent most of his young years on Air Force bases all over the country, ultimately graduating from high school in Little Rock, AR. He was awarded a vocal scholarship to the Juilliard School but due to family constraints, he attended North Texas State University (Texas State) to study voice.
Skip was a consummate performer and lived a life many only dream of including having the honor of singing with the Texas State Boys Choir for President Kennedy in 1963. He delighted audiences with his gorgeous voice and thespian abilities for many years. Around the age of 40, he decided to hang up his tap shoes for a "real" job. He moved to the DFW area and served on several fundraising boards for art institutions and as well as season with the Orlando Ballet.
Those who knew Skip loved him for his quick wit and devotion to his loved ones, friends and beloved dogs. In addition to his love of the arts, he was dedicated to rescuing dogs and was a loving pet parent to many over the years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Alma Covington (2013) and husband John Duarte (2016) and is survived by his adoring sister Rebecca Covington Lingerfelt Brown, niece Melissa Lingerfelt Terry and nephew Grant Lingerfelt, 3 great-nephews and 1 great-niece. His light here on Earth has faded, but we are assured it is brighter than ever in Heaven.
A private family service will be held in San Angelo, TX in the new year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of North Texas.
