Thaylia Jane Toots Brown Suggs was born on March 18, 1918 in Bomar, Oklahoma to Robert L. and Sarah Sally Daugherity Brown. Her life began in the countryside of Southern Oklahoma on Oswalt Road in the community of Abner in Love County. She learned the strength that comes from living in a household with one sister, Evelyn (Auntie) and three brothers: Alva, Lloyd Eugene (Bud), and Carl Robert (Mutt). Her father was a hard working man retiring from the oil field to work the farm in Love County. All of the extended family always enjoyed going to the farm to visit. Toots graduated from Meadowbrook High School in Love County during World War II. She attended and graduated from Parkland Hospital Nursing School. She worked as an RN predominantly on the night shift for 40 years attending her beloved babies in the nursery. She retired from Irving Community Hospital. She married Millard Oscar Suggs when he returned from service duty in World War II. Their family included two children, James David (1946) and Jeane Elizabeth (1954) and they made their home in Dallas, and later in Irving, Texas. She lived a simple Christian life and was a jolly woman with a heart as big as Texas. People often described her as independent, strong-minded and feisty in her golden years. Toots life changed when she lost her husband in 1984 and son, David in 1994. She and her daughter, Jeane, shared the same home for 58 years. Her extended family and friends have always been her biggest support. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and son. She is survived by her daughter, Jeane, and many other family members. She died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in Bedford, Texas. There will be a service to celebrate her life on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 3pm at First Baptist Church Chapel 403 South Main Street in Irving, TX with Pastor John Durham officiating.
