Shirley will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband and son at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date. Shirley Ann Davis, affectionately known as "Grandee," peacefully passed away at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family in her Irving home. She is survived by her two daughters, SueAnn Priem and Shryl Ann Tidmore. She is remembered by her beloved grandchildren: Lee Elaine Bates, Chad Wilson Tidmore, Jacqueline Sue Maye, David Lloyd Tidmore, Douglas John Priem Jr., and Bonnie Lynne Priem. Her great-grandchildren, Emma Marie Tidmore, Henry Peregrin Tidmore, and Kylee Ann Tidmore, brought immense joy to her life. She is also remembered by her son-in-law, Douglas John Priem, and granddaughter-in-law, Whitney Easter Tidmore. Although not family by blood, Nora A Garcia held a special place in her heart and was a dear friend. Born on April 12th of 1935 in Austin, Texas, she was the only daughter of Ruby Lee Spillar Conn and Lilburn Leon Conn. During her early years, Shirley enjoyed her upbringing in the Austin area and cherished the time spent at her grandparents' ranch in Dripping Springs. As a teenager she relocated to Alice, Texas. While in high school, she was popular amongst her peers, an active member of the Theater Club and a talented, baton twirling majorette. It was during this time that she crossed paths with Lloyd Emory Davis, Jr. and their relationship blossomed over the following years. Shirley remained in Alice and Lloyd embarked on his journey with the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. Despite the distance, their love deepened as he wrote her letters confessing his love for her and asking for her hand in marriage. They were wed on January 14th, 1955, at the courthouse in Jim Wells County in Texas. Shirley and Lloyd were fortunate to have four children. Their eldest daughter, SueAnn, was born in 1958, followed by Shryl Ann in 1960. In 1962, they welcomed their only son, Matthew Hardy, into their family. However, their joy was marred by tragedy when their youngest daughter, Lee Elaine, passed away shortly after her birth in 1964. Sadly, the family faced another devastating loss in 1993 when Matt, passed away at the age of thirty-two. While the children were growing up, Lloyds schooling and career would take the family to many different locations in Texas, New Mexico and a stint in both Alaska and Bucaramanga, Colombia. In each new home, Shirley served as a hardworking mother to her children. Throughout her life, Shirley took care of the neighborhood children, earning her the lifelong title of "Grandee" to all who fell under her loving wing. In 1989, Shirley encountered her greatest challenge when her husband, the love and love of her life, passed after battling cancer. Shirley soldiered on and assumed the role of "matriarch" to her rapidly expanding family. Shirley began her business career as an accountant at Gulf Ports and later transitioned to Supervising Administrator for City of Dimmitt, School Secretary at Valdez High, and Operations Manager at Lee Distributing. In the late 1980s, driven by Shirley's passion for flowers, she and Lloyd made the decision to purchase a flower shop, E Z Floral. After the death of Lloyd, Shirley chose to prioritize caring for her granddaughters and closed the shop in 1990. Two years later, Shirley landed her dream job as an accountant for Holmes and Petrick CPAs, where she happily spent the last two decades of her career. Shirley was an exuberant woman filled with spirit and love; she was feisty, compassionate and the first one to offer you a seat at her table. She had a strong sense of community, an immeasurable love for her family and friends, and a desire to truly live life to the fullest. Shirley was an animal lover and a birdwatcher (though she could not stand snakes); she was an avid golfer and loved classic western entertainment. Shirley found great joy in playing the piano and made an effort to teach all her grandchildren how to play. She coined many "Grandee-isms" throughout her life and had a wonderful sense of humor. A particular favorite was when asked, "How are you feeling" she would cleverly reply, "With my hands!" She was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "tick-a-lock." A safe place where children could hide under her protection, and no one could be touched. That sentiment would extend to her becoming an all-encompassing safe zone for her friends and family. In the wake of Shirley's passing, her loved ones are left with an immeasurable void. Yet, her unwavering love, contagious laughter, and compassionate nature will forever be embedded in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. We find comfort in the knowledge that Shirley's spirit will live on through the cherished memories and the profound impact she made on our lives. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her light continue to shine brightly. Shirley's love for flowers extended beyond her personal enjoyment. She believed that flowers had the power to bring happiness and comfort to others. In honor of her memory, we kindly request that those who wish to pay their respects consider giving flowers. A floral tribute from a local florist would be a fitting way to celebrate Shirley's life and the joy she found in blossoms. SERVICES
