Sherry Janene Mayes Sinclair, age 78 of Irving, Texas passed away April 9th 2019. She was born on February 20, 1941 in Coleman, Texas. She was the second oldest of five girls born to Goldie and Louie Mayes.
The Mayes family moved to Bandera, Texas in the mid 40s, where Sherry and her sisters grew up and attended Banderas only school from first to twelfth grade. After graduating, Sherry married her first husband Charles Walters from the neighboring small town of Medina, Texas. They soon moved away from her family when Charles joined the Marine Corp. Once stationed in Arizona, their two children were born. In 1964, the young family, anxious to be back in Texas and closer to family, moved around in West Texas before finally settling the in the Dallas Fort Worth area just before Stacy, their oldest started first grade in Irving, Texas.
Sherry raised her children as a stay at home mom, staying active in the schools PTA and attending every carnival, play, musical and sporting event that her children participated in. She loved working part time in a small neighborhood boutique until her Divorce in 1977, when she went to work at Bright Mortgage in the accounting department.
Sherry loved dancing and spent many free weekends dancing the night away at one of the areas Dance Halls. She soon met the next love of her life, when Arthur Sinclair asked her to dance one night. And the Rest they say is history. Sherry and Art were married in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Irving on May 9th, 1981 and enjoyed 38 years of marriage.
Sherry and Art would travel to many places during their 38 years together, including Scotland and Germany to trace their individual family roots, and various tropical beaches for sunbathing and fun in the sun. Their favorite vacation spot was Maui, Hawaii where they spent 7 glorious vacations. After retirement, Sherry and Art enjoyed spending time with her sisters and their spouses in Las Vegas. Each trip usually included seeing the latest popular Vegas show, staying up all night playing cards or slots, sometimes winning big, and always staying in complimentary rooms. Much time was spent with her sisters and their families at the Texas Coast where they enjoyed good food, fun and sunbathing to maintain her beautiful year round tan.
Family and friends were very important to Sherry. From her 4 sisters and their extended families, her blended family of 6 children, their spouses, children and their children, to her Bright Mortgage work friends, Tennis team, Cowboy Stadium friends, neighborhood friends and bible study group she always enjoyed being with each of them.
As Sherry and Arts blended family grew, they were often the designated baby sitter and always spoiled their grandkids. They were often the first to see their grandkids firsts; first steps, first words, and they were always the best babysitter around. They would travel many miles to watch their talented grandchildren play sports like softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, hockey, football and swimming. They frequently attended school events, award ceremonies, and banquets as the proudest grandparents ever.
Sherry loved many things and did not let her breathing problems stop her from being present and involved. She had a green thumb and loved to work in her yard. She loved playing cards or dice games, doing crossword puzzles, Sudoku, Trivia games or Words with Friends, or just sitting quietly building a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. She loved to be entertained with all kinds of music, singing, dancing, variety shows, musicals, and dancing competitions. She often kept notebooks of each contestants journey until they were voted off and predicted so many of the winners. She loved Elvis, his music, his movies and even saw him once in concert when he came to Dallas. She cried when he passed away like he was her personal friend. She also watched endless hours of daytime soap operas and binged watched VHS recorded shows before binge watching was popular.
Sherry Janene Mayes Sinclair had a very full and beautiful life. She never complained out loud about her asthma or let it get in the way of doing what she loved to do. She touched so many with her courage, strength, her large welcoming smile, and the warmest heart.
