Scott McKissick, 73 of Irving, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 15, 2022. He was born August 20, 1948 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Joseph Laurel and Marjorie Ivanell McKissick. He graduated from Oelwein Community High School, Oelwein, Iowa in 1967 where he excelled in football and track. That same year he moved with his family to Texas where he went on to earn a BBA in Accounting from the University of North Texas in 1971. He hired on with United States Steel Corporation (USS) in 1971 and worked in the USS Audit and Oilwell Divisions through 1988 as a field auditor and personnel manager. He later worked as a tax return reviewer for H&R Block and as an accountant for Fossil Group, Inc.
Scott met Frances Desiderio at the Boston Marathon in April 1994. They were married on September 1, 1995 at the Dallas Arboretum overlooking White Rock Lake. Due to their many contributions to the running community, both Scott and Frances were inducted into the Dallas Running Club Hall of Fame in 2018. Scott completed over 100 marathons and ran numerous races in his lifetime. As much as Scott enjoyed running, he loved visiting and sharing stories with fellow runners after the races. The members of the running community meant so much to Scott and out of his running passion came many dear and long-lasting friendships.
Scott loved his family and enjoyed visiting with his relatives, cousins, nieces and nephews in Iowa, Chattanooga, Florida and Texas. He also loved his precious dogs, Franc, Robert and Duran, all rescue Labrador Retrievers.
In February, 2018 Scott was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a very rare brain disorder. He was actively involved in the local PSP Support Group in Dallas and bonded with other patients and their families struggling with this neurological disease. He valiantly fought the debilitating effects of PSP for over 4 years. Scott passed into heaven Friday morning with his wife Frances and his dog Duran by his bedside.
Scott was preceded in death by his father Joseph in 1973, his mother Ivanell in 1995 and his Labrador Retrievers, Franc and Robert. He is survived by his wife Frances and his brother Bill.
