It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sangnapar "Allie" Choberka in her current home in Dallas, Texas. At 77, she died in her sleep of complications from Parkinsons Disease. Allie touched the lives of all those around her with her sense of humor, energy and zeal for life. Her Thai cooking was legendary as was her habit of dancing through life to an ever-present soundtrack of Tina Turner tunes.
Allie was born in Bangkok, Thailand on September 20, 1944, to Sanuen and Soi Lailert. She moved to the New York in 1975 with her husband and first two children. Allie moved several times, from New York, to Massachusetts, then Georgia and finally Dallas. Each time she moved; this tiny firecracker of a woman left behind a loyal group of friends whose lives were marked forever by her acquaintance. She always had a smile and plenty of food to offer. She was never afraid to speak her mind in that unmistakable Thai accent. Allie was fiercely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she was frequently known to pore over old photos with whoever stopped by to visit, and she truly believed her dear friends to be family.
Allie was predeceased by Sanuen and Soi Lailert as well as her sister and three brothers. She is survived by her husband, John Choberka and her children and grandchildren; Michael and spouse Michele Choberka, and their children Michael Choberka and Kayla Nicolas; Catherine Choberka-Khirallah and husband Ray Khirallah, Jr, and their son Artie Khirallah: Thomas Choberka and wife, Alexie Choberka and their children Sophia, Bella and John Paul Choberka; Irene Iverson and her husband John Iverson and their girls, Emmy and Mia. Additionally, she was blessed with two great-grandchildren and a warm community of relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home on May 4th from 6-8 PM. On Thursday, May 5th, a Rosary will be held at Mater Dei Catholic Church at 9:30 AM with a Requiem Mass following at 10:00 AM. A committal service will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
