Sandra "Sandy"
Ragsdale
Sep 20, 1942 — Dec 9, 2025
Sandra "Sandy" Ragsdale, age 83, a resident of Irving, Texas for 58 years, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2025. Sandy was born on September 20, 1942, in Childress, Texas, to Arthur William Carter and Eda Ely Carter. She was the eldest of two children, proudly taking on the role of big sister to her brother, Larry Carter, who was seven years her junior.
She was raised in Grand Prairie and was a proud Grand Prairie High School Gopher. Sandy was a talented feature twirler and majorette, winning countless competitions and even gracing the cover of Twirling Magazine. Her love for twirling continued into adulthood, where she shared her talent by coaching high school twirlers.
Sandy met the love of her life, Jim Ragsdale, and they were married on May 1, 1964, in Dallas, Texas. Together, they shared many passions, including competitive bowling. Their home proudly displayed shelves filled with bowling trophies that reflected their skill and dedication.
Sandy was the mother of three, grandmother of thirteen, and great-grandmother of twelve. She was a devoted homemaker and truly the glue that held her family together.
She loved the beach, especially collecting seashells along the shoreline. Jim and Sandy relocated to Port Mansfield, Texas, for ten years, where Sandy became actively involved in the community and proudly served as President of the Chamber of Commerce.
Family meant everything to Sandy, and she especially cherished celebrating holidays with her loved ones. Her hobbies included playing bingo, working crossword and Sudoku puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. She was a huge fan of the Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki, and she was also a devoted supporter (and super fan) of local Elvis impersonator Moses Snow.
After Jim's passing in 2012, Sandy became an active member of the Irving Heritage Senior Citizen Center, where she served as a board member and president for a term. She formed many meaningful friendships there and enjoyed traveling with her friends on numerous trips. Sandy never remarried, but she was rarely alone, always accompanied by her beloved dog, Treat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Eda Carter, and her husband, Jim Ragsdale. She is survived by her three children: son Rowdy Ragsdale; daughter Sabra Masters and husband Albert Masters; daughter Tempy Barton and husband Mark Barton. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tammy Cragg and husband James Cragg, Anthony Ragsdale, Cory Ragsdale and wife Meredith Ragsdale, Jamey Ragsdale and wife Alyssa Ragsdale, Lindsey Long and husband Austin Long, Devin Arnold, Austin Ragsdale, Delaney Arnold, Haley Ragsdale, Drake Arnold, Kendly Barton, Kingston Barton, and Karter Barton. Her great-grandchildren include: Mavis Ragsdale, Kenley Cragg, Kayden Ragsdale, Mikayla Cragg, Bennett Ragsdale, Mack Ragsdale, Mila Ragsdale, Gemma Rogers, Aliannah Long, Ryland Long, Gracie Long, and Micah Long.
Sandy will be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished "Memaw" to all who knew and loved her.
