SAM M. REECE JOHNSON, JR., age 66, a life-long resident of Irving, died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at an Arlington hospital. Born October 25, 1949 in Dallas, he was the son of the late Samuel Maurice Johnson, Sr. and Billie Hughes Johnson. An Eagle Scout, he was a former assistant scout master for Troop 770; served on the board of directors of American Indian Center in Grand Prairie; volunteered at Irving Heritage Center and Advocacy Center; was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was an investigator for Housing and Urban Development, and a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Irving. He married Sherry Willis July 14, 1973 in Big Sandy, Texas. Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Sherry Johnson of Irving; son Jonathan Brett Johnson and wife Jessica of Grand Prairie; daughter Samantha Sherece Johnson of Irving; a grandson, Logan Reece Johnson; sister Martha Arizpe and husband Joe of Georgetown; and brother Ken Johnson and wife Pam of Irving. The funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Irving. Father Robert M. Corley, Rector will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America or St. Marks Episcopal Church.
