Obituary

RUTH JEANETTE WAHL MITCHELL, age 76, of Irving, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2013, one day before her 77th birthday at home. Her loving daughter, Deborah Susan Arthur, her caregiver for the past seven years, was at her side when she went home to be with the Lord. Born December 29, 1936 in Lincoln, Indiana, she was the daughter of Archie Garland and Golda Springston Garland. Ruth led a sacrificial Christ-centered life and was a devoted mother. She took her children to church every Sunday to the Central Christian Church in Huntingburg, Indiana. On Sunday afternoons she would often take her children on a country drive to their grandparents, Golda and Otto Heilmans farm in Santa Claus, Indiana. They will always remember the fun times she created for them and her love for Christ and her family. A selfless, giving, and grateful person, she leaves precious memories with her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her strong will carried her through a series of health problems and lengthy hospital journeys. She loved to shop for her grandchildren and would always remember their birthdays. She made Christmas extra special every year for her family. She gave sacrificially to provide for her family. To make certain her family had what they needed, Ruth served in a nursing home as Activities Director in Huntingburg, Indiana. She received Tri-State recognition as being the Top Activities Director. Ruth and her daughter Deborah served many years visiting at nursing homes in Irving ministering to the patients about Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant! Preceded in death by her husband Sergeant Major William Dale Mitchell, two brothers, Dallas Garland and Thomas Garland, a sister Dorothy Stilwell and her son Douglas Wayne Wahl, she is survived by a sister Mary Lou Weir of Terre Haute, Indiana, sons, Randy Wahl of Hickory Creek, TX, Jerry Wahl of Grapevine, TX, and Scott Wahl of Hurst, TX; a daughter, Deborah Susan Arthur of Irving; and seven grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Troy, Cara, Emily, Diane and Erica. The family will receive friends 12-5 p.m. Sunday at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving, Texas. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
