Obituary

Gaye Ruth Caudle Kinkeade went home to be with her Lord Jesus on January 31, 2015. Born June 8, 1918 on a farm in Mount Vernon, Texas to James and Gaye Caudle. In her teens her father died, and she and her Mom moved to Longview, Texas. With fifty dollars, the two of them built a thriving boarding house. After graduating from Longview High, Ruth went to Mary-Hardin Baylor for two years. She transferred to Baylor in 1937, and there she met the love of her life, a skinny brash preacher from Missouri. He had come to Baylor with nothing but his desire to learn to preach the Gospel. As a new convert that had never gone to church until he was nineteen, he had a long way to go. He and his new love, Ruth, would spend the next sixty-four years together where she used her mature faith to teach him the Bible, the Kings English, the softer side of Southern charm, and the gentler side of effective persuasion. Together they led Texas Baptist churches in Abbott, Wellington, Dallas, Carrollton, Denton, and thirty-two years at First Baptist Church in Irving. They had three adored children: Susie Gaye Reynolds, an educator and homemaker; Dr. Hal Kinkeade, pastor of First Baptist Springtown; and Hon. Ed Kinkeade, a U. S. Judge in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Henry H. Kinkeade; her parents; her brother, James Bennett Caudle; her son-in-law, Marvin Reynolds; and her grandson, Marvin Reynolds II. She is survived by her children, Susie Gaye Reynolds, Dr. Hal and Sandy Kinkeade, Judge Ed and Melissa Kinkeade; grandchildren, Steve Kinkeade, Matt Kinkeade, Laura Hughes, Leslie Reynolds, William Reynolds, Rebecca Connar, Amanda Anderson, and Brad Kinkeade; and eleven great grandchildren. She was always optimistic, cheerful, and a patient encourager. She touched hearts because she was unafraid to physically touch lives. Trained as a teacher, an elementary school in Irving is named honoring her: the Dr. Henry H. and Ruth Kinkeade Early Childhood School. Visitation at First Baptist Irving Auditorium at 403 South Main Street, Irving, Texas from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Service at the same location February 4, 2015 at 10 am, burial to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Blvd., Irving, Texas 75060. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Irving, Texas or Dallas Baptist University to the Dr. Henry H. Kinkeade scholarship. Services are under the direction of Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving.
