Obituary

Rosa Maria Sam de Silva, lovingly known as Rosita, was born on February 17, 1943, in Mexico City and passed away on April 9, 2026, in Irving, Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and devotion, and a quiet strength that touched all who were blessed to know her. Rosita lived a life anchored in her Catholic faith and was guided by a heart that sought to serve others with humility and grace.

She was the beloved wife of Guillermo R. Silva and the cherished mother of Carlos G. Silva, Alma R. Geller, Sandra R. Silva, and Rogelio L. Silva. She was also a treasured mother-in-law to Jim Geller, Ange Baumann, and Chandra Silva (preceded in death). Her family was the center of her world, and she poured into them a love so deep and enduring it will be felt for generations to come.

She was extremely proud of her family and found great joy in her grandchildren, Joseph Geller and his wife Sarah, Gabriella Soriano and her husband Anthony, Max and Sam Geller, Xavier and Gabriel Silva, Brady Cordova, Isabella Silva, and her great-grandchild, Henry Geller. Her love extended to her brothers - those who went before her, Angel Sam and Gerardo Sam, and those who remain, Ricardo Sam and Marco Antonio Sam, and her sisters, Maria Elena Montes (husband, Miguel Angel) and Ana Maria Sanchez (husband, Ramon). Rosita cherished family as one of God's greatest gifts and consistently honored that gift through tenderness, loyalty, and devoted prayerful care.

After High School, Rosita completed her secretarial studies in Mexico City. She married Guillermo on December 17, 1966, in a double wedding with her sister, Maria Elena and Miguel Angel. The happy couple then moved to Dallas, Texas. She knew no one and she did not know English. She was determined to teach herself English and watched countless hours of news and soap operas on the only four channels available to accomplish this goal. She completed coursework in first aid and basic health services, equipping herself to serve the children at St. Luke Catholic School for 34 years as their school nurse. She was lovingly known as 'Mrs. Silva', always kind and compassionate to every child. Whether they needed a band-aid or a quiet moment of rest on one of the beds, that had likely been there since the school opened in 1955. She gave each student comfort, care, and tenderness. Her work was more than a profession; it was a ministry of kindness. She made people feel seen, safe, and valued. Her years of service stand as a testament to her dedication, and to the lasting difference one faithful life can make when it is lived with purpose and love.

She volunteered in many organizations and events at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Some of these included over three decades of Fall Festivals at the 'Make-your-own-Button' booth, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and helping coordinate the Montserrat Silent Retreat for Women for many years.

Rosita's interests reflected her creativity, her gentle spirit, and her appreciation for the beauty found in simple things. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She enjoyed beaded crafting, sewing, embroidery, collecting miniatures, and word searches. She was also known for her gardening and cooking skills. She found joy in nurturing life and watching it bloom. In many ways, her garden reflected her heart- she cultivated beauty, cared for what was growing, and understood that patience and faith brought forth lasting fruit.

Those who knew Rosita will remember her as loving, thoughtful, and faith filled. She lived with a steady trust in God and was very devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Though her earthly journey has ended, the influence of Rosita's life remains. Her family carries forward the lessons she taught by example, including the importance of faith, perseverance, compassion, and gratitude. Her kindness and gentle spirit will continue to inspire those who carry her memory in their hearts, reminding us of the power of love lived with purpose. She leaves behind a legacy that speaks of grace, devotion, and the enduring power of a life well lived. Her life was a sacred gift, and her memory will be forever cherished, held tenderly in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
