Obituary

Ronald Earl (Ron) Smith was born September 27th, 1951 in Lubbock Texas to James Earl Smith and Mary Elizabeth Gibson. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Torres Manglona Smith and daughter Michelle Lee Smith. He is survived by daughter Mary Jones and Husband Sean; sons, Steven Smith and his wife Deborah and Christopher Smith and wife Bonnie. six grandchildren: Shawna, Kaitlyn, Tiffany, Destiny, Zaine and Jayden; Siblings: Jessie Smith and his family, Jequita Morris and Family, David Smith and family. Extended Family: The Kimberlin Family, The McClure Family, The Alexander Family and The Capp family. From 1968 1972, Ron served in the United States Marine Corp as a Tank Commander and part of the Military Police. From 1972 1993, while working at Barnes Group as a Special-Order Product Engineer, he helped in the design of springs in a monster truck called Bigfoot and on space shuttles. He loved to live life full throttle whether it was cutting donuts in the snow or jumping waves in the boat after a full day of fishing. He loved the giggles of excitement from the twins when jumping those waves. Those that know Ron, know that anywhere he went his twin boys were always by his side. Ron loved to travel. The family, around 20 of them, use to take trips down to Galveston singing at the top of their lungs "Do Wa Diddty" while driving along the Seawall. Ron wasnt scared of anything. At least thats what the kids thought when looking at their hero. Until one Halloween night when one of Rons best friends, Joe McClure, put on a vampire costume and waited for an opportune time to scare Ron. Joe jumped out and chased him all around the yard while Ron sprayed Silly String in his face. Needless to say, Ron did not sit by Joe for the rest of the day. Ron never did live that incident down. Ron and Barbara had servant hearts giving where they could in the Kingdom of God. They would spend most of their Saturday nights making breakfast burritos for their Sunday School class. Ron was a devoted singer in their church choir. He was an entertainer as some of the youth experienced while singing on stage. He would often pretend to ride and whip an imaginary horse to get some laughs from the teenagers. One of Mary's fondest memories was when Ron took her hunting in West Texas with him. She remembered dad shooting a turkey and a friend name Joseph Kochese shooting a wild boar and then throwing it in with the kids in the back of the Jeep that they were riding in. This hunting excursion started the love of hunting in Mary's life, extending into bow hunting and archery. Another funny memory of Mary's was in High school one homecoming night a date had fell through and a friend of hers ended up going with her to the dance. Dad had said to be home before a certain time and they were, but they were sitting in the car outside the house. This did not sit well with Ron as he proceeded to walk out in his white briefs to pull the boy through his window that was down. Mary sat in shock and embarrassment through the whole ordeal. she kept apologizing to her friend for her dad saying he was just trying to scare you and embarrass me. Ron was a tremendous father, loving husband and great friend to everyone he met. We dont know how long it will take to grieve the loss of Ron but the memories of him will forever carry on in stories and in the hearts of those who loved him.
