Robert Talavera, Sr., 89, a resident of Irving for fifty-three years, died Thursday, December 6, 2018 surrounded by his family at his home. Born November 16, 1929 in San Antonio, he was the son of the late Roberto Rodriguez and Carmen Hernandez Rodriguez. He married Mary Ruth Bailey August 21, 1951 in Hope, Arkansas. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Irving. Preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jessica Talavera Carter, he is survived by his wife, Mary of Irving; sons, Robert E. Talavera, Jr. of Garland and Samuel James Talavera and wife Laura Marie of Garland; daughters, Cynthia Jimenez and husband Roland of Irving and Sally Carter and husband Tony of Irving; eight grandchildren, Damon Ray Talavera, Sr., Samuel James Talavera, Jr., Jeremy Paul Talavera, Joshua Talavera Kwasnick, Cristy Jimenez, Kari Fernandes, Geoffery Carter, and Stephanie Carter; and twenty-one great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2330 Cheyenne in Irving. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Pallbearers will be Robert Talavera, Jr., Damon Ray Talavera, Samuel James Talavera, Jr., Jeremy Paul Talavera, Geoffery Carter, Austin Fernandes, Michael Leftwich, and Joshua Talavera. Honorary Pallbearers are Tony Carter, Roland Jimenez, Eugene Jimmerson, and Johnny Thorn. SERVICES
