Obituary

On May 9, 2025, Robert Lamar Layton, affectionately called "Bob," "Pop,"

or "Uncle Bob," passed away, leaving the world a little less bright. Born

February 16, 1930, in Shreveport, LA, to Arthur and Annie Layton, he was

the third child alongside siblings Orville and Annie Merle. Bob was

preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda, with whom he shared 28 joyful

years, and his second wife, Jenny, who brought love and warmth to his later

years. Bob recently marked his 95th birthday surrounded by

many friends and loved ones.

A devoted husband and family man, Bob's strong Christian faith guided

his life. He built lifelong friendships in his community and church, always

with a smile and unwavering optimism. His beautifully extended and blended

family—in-laws, children, Jo Ann Hamby and Bobby & Cathy Clark;

grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and a

nephew and fur babies—was his pride and joy. Bob served honorably

in the Army and retired after years of dedicated service with the US Post Office.

A true Renaissance man, Bob had a passion for the arts, history, sports,

reading, and collecting coins, stamps, and silver. He loved traveling to

Civil War sites across the South and scenic destinations all across the

US and beyond, embracing the adventures each trip brought.

Join us to celebrate Bob's remarkable life at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel,

Irving, TX, on May 15, 2025. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.,
