Obituary

An Abilene native, Rene Mathieson Elmore was born on January 2, 1961 to her loving parents Price and Mary Mathieson. She graduated from Cooper High School (79) and went on to study at Baylor University and Hardin-Simmons University. After a few years, Rene started her dream job of becoming a mother to her two beloved children, John and Caroline McCurdy. Renes favorite hobby was antiquing, and she was particularly proud of her collection of American Fostoria glassware. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, and was especially fond of her rose bushes. She also loved studying her family genealogy, and spent years learning about her Mathieson roots. Rene moved to the Dallas metroplex in 2006 and eventually became an active member of First Baptist Irving, which she attended with her loving husband, Bill Elmore. Their deep faith was the most important thing they shared, shortly followed by their love for Baylor athletics. Her family and church community provided her with the strength she needed during her final years as she battled breast cancer. She fought bravely to the very end, which is reflected in her favorite saying: There aint no hill for a high-stepper. Rene was preceded by her infant daughter, Molly McCurdy. She is survived by her two children, John and Caroline McCurdy of Austin; her husband, Bill Elmore of Irving; and her parents, Price and Mary Mathieson of Abilene. Services for Rene will be held in both Irving and Abilene. In Irving, visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street in Irving. In Abilene, there will be a Celebration of Life service on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 4:30 P.M. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rene Elmores honor to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
