Obituary

Roy Lee Covington - "RL, Doodle, Dad or Da" passed away on May 23, 2022, at the age of 91 in Irving, Texas where he shared nearly 66 years of marriage with his wife Corma Covington. RL was born in Preston Hollow, Texas on August 14, 1930. He graduated from Boyd High School in McKinney. He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954 on the USS Hollister along with his brother Cub. RL was an Instrumentation Technician for LTV or Vought Aerospace Company where he worked on the space shuttle, the Multi Launch Rocket System, the S3A Viking, F14 Tomcat, F8 Crusader, and the A7 Corsair. He loved spending time on his farm in Miller Grove, Texas. His best friends were the cows that followed him everywhere and the hundreds of fish that loved to sacrifice their life for him. Most often you would find him in the garden, tinkering in the barn, on a mower, tractor, or swing with a glass of iced tea. He loved his Lord. He went to church in Miller Grove and read his bible regularly. He quietly lived his faith by constantly ministering to others mowing your lawn, cooking you a Mexican dish, visiting you at the hospital and opening the farm for visits and family gatherings. He loved his friends, navy buddies and neighbors, but the most important thing on this earth to RL was his family. He loved Corma, Gayla and Norm and Jeff and Angie, the Covingtons, and the Rhodes. However, the true joy of his life were his grandkids and the great grands. He is survived by his wife Corma Covington, daughter Gayla and husband Norm and their children and wives Trent, Lindsey, Barrett, Michelle and Connor, his son Jeff and wife Angie and their children Miranda and Colton and five great grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers Bobby and Joe, and his in-laws that he loved Roy, Gala, Charles, Carolyn and Larry and a whole passel of nieces and nephews and their children. Pretty much each of you have your own nick name, and you know how dearly you were loved. He is reunited with his mother, father, sisters, and brother along with aunts, uncles, a nephew, and friends. We are sure they had a wonderful welcome celebration party for him in heaven. RL was a quiet, kind, and humble man who left a great footprint of love wherever he traveled. He shared so much joy - touching others with his quirky sense of humor and silly grin. He was always there for his family as a soft place to fall when life pushed us down. He loved us unconditionally and we all knew it. The family will receive friends 4:00 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Colonial Funeral Home of Irving, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving 75062.
