Paul Richard Shanahan, 56, of Irving, died peacefully of brain cancer on Saturday, July 21. Born on July 26, 1961, in Dallas, he was the son of Richard and Betty Shanahan of Irving. Paul was an active member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Irving, and worked on interfaith refurbishment of local homes. He retired early and formed his own company after a career as an IT business analyst at NCH Corp of Irving, for which he traveled around the world. He was a graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce, Nimitz High School in Irving, and St. Luke School in Irving. He was treasurer, actor, and set and lighting designer in the Main Stage-Irving-Las-Colinas theater group. Paul was a member of two investment groups, DFW Options Trading and AFTA-DFW, and ran the audio-visual presentations for the latter. Paul made friends around the world with his compassionate, giving heart and his lifelong and enthusiastic quest for knowledge. He lived a deeply spiritual life respectful and supportive of others. He is survived by his parents; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanie and Mike James of Alexandria, VA, Pat and Adrian Charlton of Weatherford, and Linda and Rick Hippert of Arlington; nieces and nephew, Jeff Wright of Colorado Springs, CO, Shannon Aguilar of Alexandria, Alison Decker of Fort Worth, and Erin Hippert of Arlington; great-nephews and great-nieces Devin Wright, J R Wright, Alexandrea Wright, and William James; great-great-niece Lili Wright; and an uncle and several cousins, including Andy Engeman of Denver, CO. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 25 from 6-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 led by Deacon Ron Morgan at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway, Irving, Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2330 Cheyenne Street, Irving, Texas, on Thursday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Joel Bako, celebrant.
