PATSY (DARNELL) HAWKINS, a life-long resident of Irving, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at a care center in Irving. She was born September 22, in Abilene, Texas, to Carl Darnell and Velma Isabelle Patterson Darnell. Patsy married Jerry Dean Hawkins, Sr. on January 1, 1949 in Dallas. For many years, she was secretary to Dr. John Townley, former Irving ISD Superintendent. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 18, 1988; sister, Velma Key; and grandson, Bailey Dean Hawkins. Survivors include her son, Jerry Dean Hawkins and partner John Green of Oak Cliff; grandson, Kennedy Christian Hawkins of Oak Cliff; sister, Sandra Jo Simon and husband Mark of Allen; brother-in-law, Bill Key of Irving; life-long friends, Faye Bowland and husband Davis of Tyler; and son, Kenneth Hawkins of Irving. Graveside Service 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Boulevard in Irving. Reverend Carol West will officiate. Friends and guests joining the family Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning are welcome to dress casual in their favorite Hawaiian colors.
