Patricia Bailey
Singleton
Nov 30, 1947 — Dec 14, 2024
Patricia "Patty" Bailey Singleton, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December14, 2024, in Plano, Texas after her courageous battle with esophageal & lung cancer.
Patty was the oldest child born to Clyde Allee Bailey and Gretchen Critz Bailey in Bryan, Texas, on November 30th, 1947. Patty spent her entire childhood in Bryan, Texas, where she developed a reputation for unyielding kindness and generosity. Early in her adult life, she moved to Irving, Texas, where she raised her family creating a home base for the balance of her life including her later years at The Remington Senior Living in Las Colinas. While she held a teaching degree from Sam Houston State University, Patty viewed her most significant accomplishment as raising her three boys who were her pride and joy. Patty was a universally celebrated "boy mom" first and foremost. Whether navigating chaotic sports schedules, wrestling matches, school events, or even the occasional ER visit, she remained a shining example of strength and refinement for her kids. Even amidst the challenges later life brought her way, Patty never wavered in her compassion for her boys. She continued to support them to her last day regardless of the challenges facing her personally. However, this will not surprise anyone who knew Patty as she was the first to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. And, usually with that humorous quick wit she became known for, bringing a smile to those who often needed it most.
Patty's loss will be deeply felt by the many friends she treasured throughout her life. Early life summers at Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, forged deep bonds and trusted relationships that lasted the entirety of her life. None was more valued than her dear friend, Thada Bain, or "Miss Thada" to her family. Thada was not only a rock of support for Patty, but also a cherished travel companion. Together, they made many trips over the years. From closer to home in the historic Lowcountry of South Carolina, to the more exotic faraway places like Ireland and Kenya. Patty absolutely adored the time with her running buddy Thada, regardless of where they were.
Patty's network of friends grew throughout her life, especially through her work in the community after creating a home base for the family in Irving. She was a tireless pillar in the community dedicating much of her time to raising money and awareness for the newly established Irving Healthcare Foundation. Her commitment to the Irving/Las Colinas healthcare landscape might be best demonstrated by her time serving on various Committees and Boards of Directors for the Irving Healthcare Foundation culminating as one of the most successful Directors of TexasFest, their primary fund-raising event. Largely due to Patty's continued effort over the years, Texas Fest raised over $11 Million ultimately creating the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Irving that people recognize today.
The genuine relationships Patty forged with so many, whether from the communities of Bryan or Irving, from the colleague environments of Camp Mystic or Royal Body Care, or from her support networks later in life such as The Remington Family, served as a critical foundation for her joy in life allowing her to pass fulfilled. Always quick with a smile and a one-liner, Patty was the type of friend who loved everyone and that everyone loved.
Patty was many things to many people: mom, daughter, sister, friend, or even just a shoulder to cry on, but the role she coveted more than any other was being "Nana" to her eight wonderful grandchildren. The strong and supportive "boy mom" finally got to flex different muscles and quickly turned into "girl Nana," or as her boys called it, "spoiler to all." Nana brought joy and laughter to all-this was the absolute best of who she was.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde A. Bailey, and his wife, Gretchen Bailey. She is survived by her son, W. Sam Singleton, and his sons, Barrett and Colton; her son J. Alan Singleton and his wife, Maggie with their children Grayson, Caroline, Ellie, and Lucy; her son, Travis Singleton, and his wife, Leslie with their daughters Neely and Tessa. Patty is also survived by other family members including her sister, Maurine "Mimi" Tobin with her husband Bob, and her brother, Benjamin "Ben" Bailey with his wife Michelle.
A celebration of life will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway, Irving, Texas 75062 on January 4th, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Patricia Bailey Singleton will be privately interred with her parents in the Rest Ever Cemetery in Bryan, Texas separately in a small, family ceremony.
