Owen Harvey Gann left us to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 30, 2021 at 4:55 p.m. in Irving, Texas with his daughter, Jen Walters by his side.
Owen was born February 10, 1946 in Conway, Missouri to Virgil and Della Gann. Graduating from Clackamas High School in Portland, Oregon in 1965, Owen worked full time at a local nursery during his High School years.
He was drafted into the Vietnam War, choosing the branch of Army to serve in. Graduating from boot camp in July of 1966, he was shipped to Cameron Bay, Vietnam. While stationed there in April of 1967 he heroically saved the life of a fellow service member. Owen intervened in the incorrect repair of a 10,000 lb. forklift tire that exploded and blew them into the air. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic action and quick thinking that saved the mans life. After recovering from his accident, he spent the remaining part of his enlistment on light duty at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Owen later moved back to Oregon and while attending Liberty Temple Gospel Church there he met and fell madly in love with Jill Carroll of Woodland, Washington, an eighteen-year-old piano player and choir director there. They married in 1969 and had two children. Their son, Owen Rodney Gann, who went by the name Rodney was born in 1970. Their daughter Jennifer Leann Gann was born in 1973.
Owen was always an extremely hard worker who ran a successful roofing business for over 40 years. After that he became a land contractor and developer until entering retirement as a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran.
Owen was blessed with two grandchildren, Allysa "Sweetie pie" Bethany Walters and Braden Owen Walters. They were his greatest loves in life, spending every Christmas and birthdays spoiling them. His son in law was the second son in his life and he treated him like his own blood. He was so proud of his Coast Guard career.
He was preceded in death by his two siblings that he loved. An older sister, Imogene Marcella Gann, and his younger brother, Leslie Everett Gann.
Owen was an avid rifle and bow hunter who loved bringing home the big game on hunting trips with his then hunting buddy, friend and Pastor Jack Dennis. For the past 33 years he and his best friend Pastor Larry Huch of New Beginnings Church (in Portland, Oregon and then Dallas, Texas) shared a love of the outdoors with many great amazing hunting adventures. Owen and the Huchs considered each other family. Larry and Tiz, Anna, Luke, and Katie (and, then Brandin and Jen) shared a lot of great times camping, fishing, hunting, games, laughing, church and ministry outreach and drinking a lot of coffee for the past 33 years. Hes been a faithful, loyal and steadfast leader in church services and events, life groups, mens breakfasts, overcomers groups, prayer meetings and church lobby socializing, befriending and encouraging people the whole time. He was a praye4r warrior who lived a life of compassion, prayer, strong faith and deep love for God, His Word, and His people. Owen loved and was loved by many great friends.
If you knew Owen, then you knew he was a breakfast and coffee guy. His favorite time spent on most days was meeting someone for breakfast and drinking copious amounts of black coffee at his favorite restaurant. As much as he loved church services, he was at his best before and after services hanging out in the lobby socializing, befriending, encouraging, smiling, laughing and enjoying being a friend and a light to everyone in his pathalways with a cup of coffee in his hand. He truly gave his life to making the world a better place! Owen impacted many lives and changed the world over a cup of coffee!
He walked in love as a daily example showing others what a true man of God looked like. May God raise up thousands of men and women to be and do the same! We will miss you every day until we see you again. Keep the coffeepot in Heaven hot and save a cup for us all!
