Nelda McLain Hamilton, age 83, passed away peacefully after a strong fight with cancer, on Sept 12, 2020, at her niece's home in Grapevine, TX. Nelda was born December 14, 1936, in Van Alstyne, TX to the late Joseph (Sam) and Zelma McLain. She grew up in Irving. Nelda was married to the love of her life, Art Hamilton on June 12, 1958 in Irving. They were married for 31 years, before his death in 1989. Later in her bookkeeping career, while working part-time, her boss told her she got more work in a partial day than the full-timers. She was a person who made people feel good after a conversation with her, and she exemplified "Be Kind". Nelda took great pride in how well she took care of her Mother, who suffered from dementia. Nelda was a devout woman, a member of the First Baptist Church of Irving since 1946. She was part of the Kinkeade Bible Class, and served in church ministries. Preceded in death by her parents, a brother Joe McLain, and her husband Art, Nelda leaves behind a nephew, Trevor McLain; a niece, Angela & husband Wesley Weddle; great-nephew, Bobby Weddle; great-niece, Brooke Weddle; great-gr niece Ramsay Weddle; sisters-in-law Dorothy (husband Bob) McMahan of Waco; Katie (husband Bobby) Justiss of Longview; Evenlyn (husband Bill) Chapman of Longview; nephews Donn (wife Dana) McMahan; Steve (wife Lydia) McMahan; nephew Andy Bowden; niece Susie Bowden; niece Jennifer Chapman; great-nephews/nieces Cody, Kent, Amy Kelly & Katherine McMahan; Sherrie Bowden; Blake McFarland; Aunt and Uncle, Gloria and Jim Carbaugh, as well as other family and many friends. she is survived by several cats, including Lucy. She will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends 6:00 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. The funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street in Irving. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E. Irving Blvd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street in Irving, TX 75060.
