Marlyss Hopkins (ne Utterberg): September 6, 1940 May 19, 2021
Marlyss Hopkins, age 80, of Irving, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2021. Marlyss, known as Marti, was born September 6, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. Marti grew up in Minneapolis, raised her children in Indianapolis, IN, and settled for the last four decades of her life in Irving, TX.
Marti had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord. A one-time Sunday School teacher, she read the Bible every night before going to sleep.
Marti loved watching sporting events, almost any sport, on television mostly, sometimes in person, all her life. She was a long-time fan of the Dallas Cowboys. She was an accomplished musician who played piano and trumpet. She was, also, a talented seamstress and knitter who made many items of clothing, costumes, and sweaters for her family.
Marti worked for the company that became the Hunt Corporation for over 40 years as an executive assistant, adding office manager to her list of duties after moving to the Dallas office. Marti had a very strong work ethic that she was very proud to have passed on to her children. Marti was loved and respected by all who knew her at workand almost everybody knew Marti.
Marti was loving and generous with her time and resources. She loved life and she believed that one of her missions in life was to spread her love. Marti and her husband, George, entertained children as clowns at childrens birthday parties and community events. Marti also made balloon animals for children at the parties and events.
Marti and George also enjoyed doing round dancing together, for which she sewed their costumes.
Marti was preceded in death by George, her husband of 40 years, her brother, Lathan Utterberg, and her parents, Hilma and A.E. Utterberg.
Marti is survived by her children and step-daughter: Beth of San Jos, CA (and her husband, Peter), Bradford of Irving, TX, Laquieta Beth of Muncie, IN (and her husband, Bob), and by her grandchildren, Rebecca and Thomas and by Lathans wife, Wilma, and Lathan and Wilmas children and grandchildren and their spouses and Lathan and Wilmas great-grandchild.
Martis presence in the world is deeply missed. May she rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Marti be remembered through a memorial gift to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
