Maria Rodriguez Torrez, 88 of Irving, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born on March 10, 1933, in Taylor, Texas to Felix Rodriguez and Francisca Avila. She married her husband, Isabel Arguijo Torrez on July 5, 1952, and they spent over six decades together, starting a warm, loving family with five children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Maria worked for Irving Independent School District in the cafeteria, so she could be closer to her children at school. She followed as they moved from elementary school, middle school, and high school as they grew up. Maria was also a housewife. She loved bingo, casino, gardening, playing games with family, enjoying friends, and being around grandchildren. She was a sports fan, she had family get-togethers, cookouts, attended her church, and loved her soap operas. She loved music, dancing, and singing. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dallas and attended there since the 1960s, and proudly served in the Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isabel Arguijo Torrez; her parents; her son-in-law, Micky Holland; sisters, Antonia Campos, Petra Loredo, Victoria Gallegos, and Gregoria Alegria; her brothers, Reyes Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez, and Santos Rodriguez; and one grandson, Ricky Rodriguez. Survived by; sons, Ernest Torrez and wife Anita, Ruben Torrez and wife Maria, Ray Torrez and wife Linda, and Dory Torrez and wife Michelle; daughter, Mary Ann Holland; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 4:00 PM at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home at 606 W Airport Fwy in Irving, Texas. There will be a rosary service at 6:00 PM. Guests are welcome until 9:00 PM that evening. Another viewing will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, May 17, 2021 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday May 17, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 5605 Bernal Street, Dallas, Texas 75212, followed by the burial at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas.
