Obituary

Matriarch of the Bell family, Lillian Lorraine Cloud Bell was born a Leap Year baby on February 29, 1928 in Boynton, Oklahoma to Richard Cloud and Millie Lane Cloud. During the depression, their family moved West to Arizona but returned to Oklahoma shortly thereafter. She started school in a one-room school house in Middle Creek, Oklahoma. She was an excellent student and graduated Salutatorian from Nuyaka High School in 1944. She was proud of her participation in high school basketball championships region and state-wide.

After high school she moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma to work as a secretary and rented an apartment for $11 a month. Lorraine returned to Nuyaka in 1945 and met Earnest Bell at his house and washed his hair. They married on December 7, 1946 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Lorraine and Earnest moved to Tulsa where Earnest went to flight school. They then moved to Los Angeles, CA and welcomed their son, Richard Bell on September 14, 1947. They returned to Tulsa to work for American Airlines and Lorraine realized she had married a Flyboy. Their daughter Trudie Bell Henderson completed their family on June 11, 1951 in Okmulgee. Earnest moved to Buffalo with American then the young family moved to Chicago, where Earnest was based at Chicago Midway. Their next base was at Dallas Love Field, then Detroit Metropolitan in MI, followed by New York where he flew out of all three airports, finally settling back in Dallas. Lorraine loved exploring her new towns and visiting museums.

At each of their homes, Lorraine and Earnest helped create new Southern Baptist Convention churches. Lorraine was active in each of their churches and led Women's Missionary Union (WMU) at each church. Through WMU, Lorraine helped support mission work around the world. Lorraine taught Sunday School for many years and took great care with her study of the Bible and discipleship.

After Earnest's retirement, they enjoyed travel around the world. Some of Lorraine's favorite trips were Martinique, Greece, and Kauai, HI. But, her favorite location was her farm in Nuyaka, OK. Her Mom and Dad lived there and Earnest and Lorraine built their own home on the same farm. They raised cattle, rode horses, and enjoyed walking to the creek and sitting on the porch.

Lorraine was a gifted artist who especially loved to paint farm scenes. She won awards at Irving Arts Center for her paintings. Her family was very proud of her creativity and artistic ability. Lorraine took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her grandchildren were young, Earnest and Lorraine loved to have them stay for weeks in the summer. They would take them to the farm and to museums in Fort Worth. In Lorraine's later years, her joy spread to her eight great-children. She doted on them and loved teaching them to crochet, introducing them to the farm and feeding them McDonald's.

Lorraine went to walk with her Lord and Savior on June 24, 2025 at the age of 97, though she would say she was 24 because she was a Leap Year baby. Lorraine is preceded in death by parents Richard Cloud and Millie Lane Cloud, husband Earnest Bell, son Richard Bell. She is survived by daughter, Trudie Bell Henderson and husband, Doug, and daughter-in-law Barbara Bell; grandchildren Jason Henderson and wife Julia, Robert Bell, Rebekka Garcia and husband Chris, Richard Bell, Mattie Henderson, Rachel Fingeroot and husband Bryan. Great grandchildren, Benjamin Garcia and wife, Hayden, Katherine Garcia, Lorraine Garcia, Sophia Henderson, Kaz Henderson, Dylan Fingeroot, Lyla Fingeroot, and Serenity Powell, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed beyond measure but remembered with joy always. Her family wishes to thank Meals on Wheels and the nursing staff at Baylor Scott & White Irving.
