Obituary

Leslie Earl Jones was a man faithfully devoted to God and his family. Invariably calm, tenaciously strong and sternly reliable, his presence always brought peace. He was married to Shirley Laverne Whatley on July, 27, 1957 in Irving, TX. He died on May 10, 2022 in Grapevine, Texas. Born on September 11, 1937 in Hereford, Texas to parents J.S. Jones and Elsie Gravely Jones, from an early age Leslie committed his life to serving Christ, and shared his Lords love in everything he did. He was very involved in the church, serving as teacher, committee member, board member and in other leadership positions. After a long career as a corporate executive, he retired in 2001 to spend more time at his home in Flower Mound, Texas, with his wife, Shirley, to whom he always showed respect and admiration. Leslie delighted in the outdoors, in fishing, hunting and campingand he enjoyed planning these trips as much as taking them. He was a seasoned softball player (and, naturally, the perfect fit for a coach), and skilled at woodcarving, photography and tying flies for fishing so artfully it almost felt wrong to feed them to a fish. He spent years growing plants from seeds, including flowers, herbs, trees and many varieties of vegetables. It was always a treat to share a meal with food from his garden and tour his greenhouse. His family, which he prioritized above all else, happily serves as his legacy, impacted by the powerful influence of his life and the example he set for them. Along with his wife, Shirley, he is remembered by all of his siblings: brothers James and wife Christine, Gary and wife Dorothy, Norman and wife Dianne, Ron and wife Stacey; sisters Joyce and husband Phil Mitchell, Carol Newton, Judy and husband Doug Neu. Hes remembered by his two sons, Terry and wife Pat, who live in Georgetown, Texas, and Kerry and wife Valerie, who live in Irving, Texas. Hes remembered by his grandchildren, Kanah Jones and wife Brooke, Aaron Jones and wife Rebecca, Meagan and husband Joe Lodzinski, Lacey and husband Cody Cunningham, Austin Jones and wife Emily, Justin Jones and wife Lupita, and his namesake, Lesley, and her husband Michael Jarboe. Hes remembered by eight precious great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and everyone who had the blessing of knowing him. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2022 at Colonial Funeral Home of Irving, 606 West Airport Freeway 75062. The funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 in the funeral home chapel.
