Obituary

Kathleen Margaret Denman died October 14, 2013 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 99. She was born to Reverend Walter Stanley and Hannah Morris in Spencer, Nebraska on June 15, 1914. Responding to a call from the Methodist church in England for pastors willing to serve in the United States, her father and mother emigrated from Wales and settled in Nebraska. Kathleen followed her early interest in childhood education and attended Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska where she also taught kindergarten. On May 18, 1947, she married Charles V. Denman and moved to Dallas Texas, where Charles attended seminary at Perkins School of Theology. As a pastors wife Kathleen followed her passion for childhood and Christian education by founding pre-schools in nearly all of her husbands appointments, including First United Methodist Church in Dallas, First United Methodist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, where she founded the Creative School. In 1952 she became the founding director of the Highland Park Presbyterian Day School where for 35 years she touched the lives of countless children in providing a nurturing Christian learning environment that accepted individual differences and emphasized the unfailing love of God for all. During her Christian education tenure at Highland Park Presbyterian Day School she received the Margaret Cohn Award for Teaching Excellence. As both an educator and pastors wife Kathleen was beloved by all, and known for her gentle spirit, affirming nature, devotion to her family and husband, and her service to Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Muriel Stalker and her husband, Charles V. Denman. She is survived by sons, Charles M. Denman and his wife Cindy, and Stanley F. Denman and his wife Beverley and their son, Peter S. Denman. Visitation is from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 17th at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday October 18th at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 10066 Marsh Lane. The family requests that any donations in Kathleens honor be made to childhood education at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church.
