Obituary

Joyce Leslie Watts Thorn ended her courageous battle with cancer Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the age of 63 years. She was peacefully called to God while surrounded by her family at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Ok. Joyce was born November 30, 1947 in Pittsburg, Texas to Elouise and Lester Watts. She was the middle child of three daughters, Saundra is the oldest and Diane is the youngest. Joyce lived her pre-marriage life in Irving Texas, and attended public school there. Joyce met Danny Thorn, the love of her life and future husband, in 9th grade high school science class. A humorus anecdote is that although the sat next to each other on the front row, they didnt have a conversation for several months. Danny thought that she was stuck up because she seemed to be aloof. The truth was that she required glasses to correct her vision but she did not think they flattered her and refused to wear them. She looked aloof because she was straining to see the blackboard. Joyce thought that Danny was stuck up and didnt want to engage him. The real truth that Danny didnt want to ruin his chances with her by speaking, so he didnt. Finally Danny asked her to a party and the rest is history. They attended Irving High School for four years and were married. Joyce was the loving mother to three children, Stephanie Diane Thorn McManus, Danielle Lynn Thorn Fish, and Stephen Daniel Thorn Jr. Joyce was extremely talented and spent many years in the furniture industry as co-owner of three furniture stores, as well as a decorator. She enjoyed gardening, crafting and travel. Danny would get an idea for a business, get it started, and Joyce would either contribute heavily or end up running it completely. Joyce is survived by her husband of 44 years, Danny Thorn and two daughters; Stephanie Diane Thorn McManus, Danielle Lynn Thorn Fish and one son Stephen Daniel Thorn Jr. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great grand children, whom she loved and lived for. Visitation for Joyce will be at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home in Irving, TX on Friday August 5th from 7 9 pm. Services will be held at Donnellys on Saturday August 6th at 10:00 AM. Pall bearers will be her son in law, Robert McManus, three grandsons Nicolas McManus, Ryan Daniel McManus, and Kennedy McManus. Her brother in law, Harvey Robertson and Dannys cousin Johnny Bacon. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that an equivelant amount be donated in her name to: Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Southwestern Regional Medical Center, 10109 East 79th Street, Tulsa, OK 74133. Joyce fought cancer bravely and without complaint. She did everything in her power to remain with her family on this earth. She had many prayers to light her way to Heaven where she now can lovingly watch over her family surrounded with the brilliance of God. Her light and love live on in all of whom she touched.
