ELMIDA JOY DOUGLAS, 80, a resident of Irving since 1959, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Joy was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on July 3, 1933 to James Elmer Buck Davis and Ida Mae Waldron Davis. She wed W. S. Doug Douglas on June 2, 1951 and they enjoyed 59 beautiful years together until his death in 2010. Joy retired from General Motors after 30 years as an executive secretary. Doug was a railroad man and they made many, many dear friends through their work and activities. They were active members of The Swinging Squares square dance club and the North Texas Travel Trailer Club. Joy enjoyed travel, crocheting, reading, garage sales (especially in Colorado) and spending time with friends and family She was a member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church of Irving and the Irving YMCA. Joy is survived by her children, Sherry Ann Kirby and husband Gary, and William Stanley Douglas and wife Vickie; brothers, William Burel Davis, Hubert Harold Davis and wife Almetta; and sister, Norma Lee Davis Jordan and husband David. Also surviving Joy are grandchildren, Jennifer Cyne Hartnett Hindman and husband Brandon and Michael Aaron Hartnett and wife Alicia; six great grandchildren; special aunt, Jean Leird and husband John D; uncle, Raymond Waldron and wife Mary; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to count. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home, 606 W. Airport Freeway in Irving. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, the American Heart or American Stroke Associations.
