Obituary

Joseph Clifton Collins Jr, affectionately known as Buddy, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. He was born on June 17, 1942, in the city of Louisville, Kentucky. At the age of 8, his family relocated to Oak Cliff, where Buddy would leave a mark on the lives of those around him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clifton Collins, Sr and Georgia Fern McAllister-Collins. Buddy's journey in life was marked by his unwavering dedication and pursuit of excellence. After graduating from Adamson High School in 1960, he enlisted in the US Marine Corp serving 4 years as a reservist prior to setting his sights on a career in architecture. His determination led him to The University of Oklahoma, where he obtained his degree in Architecture, setting the foundation for a successful future. For over 30 years, Buddy poured his heart and soul into his own business, Collins and Associates. As an astute architect, general contractor, and licensed structural engineer, Buddy's designs and contributions left a lasting mark on the landscape of his community. In the year 2000, he embarked on a new chapter, joining Hill & Wilkinson, relishing the experience until his well-deserved retirement in 2010. Buddy's legacy extends far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was a loving husband to his devoted wife of 58 years, Verna Sue Collins, caring brother to his only sibling, his sister, Nancy Jane Collins, and a cherished father to his children, Shannon Huckaba and husband Tony, Michael Collins, and Nikki Blass and husband Casey. His presence and guidance will forever be cherished by his grandchildren, Ryan Huckaba and wife Alyssa, Austin Huckaba and wife Candice, Collin Huckaba, Brookelynn Huckaba, Landin Blass and fianc Brianna, Kennedy Blass and fianc Dylan, and Casen Blass. Buddy's joy reached new heights with the arrival of his great-granddaughters, Lyla, Stella, and Willow, and the anticipation of his first great-grandson, Daxtin, due to arrive on September 19, 2023. Among his cherished companions was his beloved little Yorkie, Zoey, who always found comfort perched on his shoulders. Buddy's character was unwavering in its honesty and loyalty. He possessed an unparalleled commitment to perfection, refusing to cut corners in all that he undertook. A true patriarch, he set an extraordinary example for all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passion for sailing, building things, Dallas Cowboys, OU football and 50s music fueled his spirit, and he took great pride in his most remarkable accomplishment: the unique family home he designed and built with his own hands. With a love for routine, he faithfully indulged in his Friday night Whataburger, finding comfort in the familiar. His sense of humor was a gift that brought smiles and laughter to those around him. Buddy's departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply by his entire family. Yet, in the midst of sorrow, we find comfort in the memories we shared, the lessons we learned, and the love he bestowed upon us. A celebration of Buddy's life will be held on Sunday, September 24th at Colonial Funeral Home in Irving, Texas. Visitation from 4-6 pm with service immediately following. We invite all those whose lives he touched to join us in honoring his memory, sharing stories, and finding comfort in the embrace of loved ones. In leu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, both causes close to Buddys heart. His impact on our lives is immeasurable, and his spirit will forever guide us. As we bid you farewell, we find peace in knowing that your character will echo in our hearts for eternity. We will forever cherish your words, "I love you darlin" and "Bye sweetheart" There are no gallery images.
