Obituary

Johnny B. Fenley went to his Lord on Saturday March 11, 2006, at his home in Irving. He was born May 4, 1940 in Shamrock, Texas to J.B. and Erma Fenley. As a boy, he lived on a farm and attended schools in Lela and Shamrock, where he showed his prowess in education and athletics. As a member of the Class 62 of Texas A&M College (now University), Johnny was proud to be a member of the Sul Ross Volunteers and to serve on the Student Senate, the Sciences Council, the Accounting Society, and the Aggieland Staff. Academically he was recognized as a Distinguished Student and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Following completion of his military obligation, Johnny obtained his M.B.A. from the University of Texas in Austin in 1967. He earned his C.P.A. certification and worked first for Price Waterhouse & Co. before leaving public accounting. In 1976 he purchased Superior Lawn Sprinkler Co. and spent the next 25 years actively involved in the Dallas Irrigation Association and Texas Turf Irrigation Association until retiring in 2001. He loved to fish and play golf in his youth, and found great pleasure in being a class agent for the Class 62 for several years preceding his death. That job brought him in contact with many friends who have so generously expressed their love of him. Johnny is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly; his daughters and sons- in- law Stephanie and Gustavo Garcia and Rhonda Gail and John Huston; his son and daughter- in- law John Brian and Robin Fenley. His children and grandchildren Jarrett Brison Fenley and Gabriela Grace Garcia were the greatest delights of his life. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Tom and Jo Fenley and their children Andy and Andrea of Erick, Oklahoma, many cousins, and friends around the world through Texas A&M and the internet. Johnny became a Christian late in his life, and yet made many fast friends at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, where he was baptized. He especially loved the ministry of Ken Branham, his pastor and friend. Johnny would want to be remembered as a child of God, and would encourage everyone to have faith in the Lord. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. March 15, 2006 at Plymouth Park Baptist Church, 1714 N. Story Road in Irving, with interment in the D/FW National Cemetery in Dallas to follow. Visitation will be Tuesday March 14 at Donnellys Funeral Home in Irving from 6-8 p.m. The family requests that gifts be given to Plymouth Park Baptist Church mission funds, the Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, Baylor Medical Center Irving, or the American Cancer Society.
