Obituary

John C. Howell, age 69, passed away February 20, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, March 9th at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to John Howell, a cherished father, esteemed colleague, and dear friend. At 69 years old, John departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and laughter. John's adventurous spirit was deeply rooted in his early experiences with the Boy Scouts, a journey he embarked upon alongside his uncle Harold and his father Randy. Aunt Beth fondly recalls how these formative years fostered John's love of riding horses, hunting for rocks, and caring for stray animals. One cherished memory, in particular, recounts John earning his 50 Miler Afoot and Afloat badge alongside his father, a testament to their shared love of adventure and the great outdoors. John spoke about this trip fondly and never failed to mention how sunburned they both were at the end. This achievement, alongside his attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout, underscores his steadfast commitment to embodying the values of loyalty, bravery, and service instilled by the organization. As a devoted family man, John provided unwavering support and guidance to his children, leaving an indelible impression through his patient demeanor and invaluable life lessons. He was devoted to caring for his mother, and he treated his in-laws like his own flesh and blood. His commitment to his family, evident in the time he spent with them, will reverberate through the generations. During his college years, John pursued his passion for architecture, immersing himself in the world of design and creativity. He found joy and inspiration in various forms of art, music, and cultural experiences, savoring the beauty of creative expression throughout his lifetime. This love for arts and culture was not only a personal passion but also something he passed down to his children, enriching their lives with the same appreciation for creativity and expression. In his professional life, John surpassed the role of colleague, evolving into a mentor and confidant for many. His integrity, diligence, and expertise in the oil and gas industry earned him universal respect and admiration. However, it was his warm demeanor and genuine interest in others that truly set him apart. John's ability to foster deep connections with his peers resulted in friendships that lasted a lifetime. He cherished these bonds, often attending their dinner parties and eagerly supporting them by attending plays they performed in. John's departure leaves a void in the lives of those he touched, a testament to the lasting impact of his friendship and camaraderie. John's infectious sense of humor, quick wit, and lighthearted spirit were celebrated by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. From the regulars at his favorite sandwich shop to his neighbors and anyone who spent time in his company, John touched countless lives with his warmth and humor. His ability to bring joy to others was truly remarkable and left an enduring mark on all who crossed his path. As we bid farewell to John Howell, we hold onto the memories he created and the lives he touched. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will endure in our hearts forever. John is survived by two daughters, Ashley and Erin Howell; sister, April Howell; and grandson, Zane Howell. Rest in peace, dear John. You have left an indelible mark on our lives, and your memory will be cherished for eternity.
