Herring
Aug 12, 1958 — Jul 31, 2026
John S. Herring, 67, of Corinth, Texas, formerly of Irving, passed away on July 31, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas.
John was born on August 12, 1958, in Dallas, Texas, to Elkin Eugene Herring and Florence Lynn Talley Herring.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Cemetery in Irving. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
John was a man who found great joy in life's simple pleasures and the people who shared them with him. He had an extraordinary love for classic movies and seemed to know every line from every film. Mention a quote from an old movie, and John could instantly tell you its title—and probably share a few behind-the-scenes stories as well.
His passion for classic films also led him to meet many of his favorite stars. One of his favorite stories involved Henry Winkler. Knowing how much John's mother loved "Happy Days", John asked Henry if he would call her. Without hesitation, Henry did just that, spending nearly ten minutes talking with her—a memory John treasured for the rest of his life.
No film held a more special place in John's heart than "It's a Wonderful Life". He was honored to meet the legendary James Stewart and even had the privilege of visiting with him several times. He also enjoyed meeting Karolyn Grimes, who portrayed the beloved Zuzu in the timeless Christmas classic.
Above all else, John dearly loved his daughter, Emylee. She was the center of his world, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with her. One of his favorite weekly traditions was Thursday night trivia. Whenever Emylee would use her "Call a Friend" lifeline to call her dad, John would eagerly turn up the volume so he wouldn't miss a single word. Those calls were moments he looked forward to every week.
John was also a devoted fan of classic rock, with The Rolling Stones holding a special place as his favorite band. Whether watching an old movie or listening to his favorite songs, while drinking his Dr. Pepper he embraced the things that brought him joy and happily shared that enthusiasm with everyone around him.
John will be remembered for his warm heart, quick wit, remarkable knowledge of classic films, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His kindness, laughter, and countless stories will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his father Gene Herring, Mother, Lynn Honea and step-father Maurice Honea.
John is survived by his beloved daughter, Emylee Herring; his loving partner, Denise "Denni" Christiansen; his brothers, Jim Herring and Tommy Herring and wife, Velma; and his cherished furbabies, Skittles, Beaux, Peanut, and Caesar, who brought him endless companionship and joy.
Though he is no longer with us, John's love for family, and the memories he created with those he loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
