Obituary

John Edward Sindt, affectionately known as "Lone Ranger John" and by his radio call sign Kj4619, passed away at his home in Irving, Texas, on July 20, 2026, at the age of 81. John was born on August 16, 1944, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Vernon H. Sindt and Mary Rael Sindt. He grew up in Temple, Texas, where he developed the values of hard work, determination, and loyalty that would guide him throughout his life.

John was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the famed Big Red One (1st Infantry Division) as a forward observer. Following his military service, he attended the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor, where he earned a degree in Computer Science.

He enjoyed a successful career in the energy industry, working for Sun Oil and later Oryx Energy. Outside of work, John had a passion for life and the people around him. He was known as a talented pool player, an avid golfer, and someone who never missed an opportunity to challenge his son Ryan in friendly competition—always determined to prove he was just a little better. He was also a devoted Texas Rangers baseball fan and enjoyed the camaraderie of his many friends.

John will be lovingly remembered by his son, Ryan Sindt; his daughters, Michele Sindt and D'Lise Barboza; his sister, Mary Lou Quinn; as well as numerous friends and extended family members who will cherish his memory.

John's family will honor him with a Celebration of Life service at a later date.
