John Bob Dodson, 86, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Born October 6, 1936, and always proud to say he was born in "Big D", he thought hed been born in the most blessed generation, living through many of the worlds most impacting changes and inventions.
He loved God, His Son Jesus Christ, who was his Lord and Savior, and never missed an opportunity to tell those around him what Christ had done for him. After serving in the Air Force, he worked for Braniff International Airways, in airborne radio, electronics, radar and navigational equipment. Then he headed up an in-house advertising agency in manufacturing sales. In 1965 he managed his own State Farm Agency in Irving for 31 years.
He was a volunteer for Dallas Suicide and Crisis Center on the phone lines. He also worked with S.O.S groups (Survivors of Suicide). He loved painting, especially eagles, music (the piano), literature, and writing. He achieved his dream of publishing a book of his writings "Pieces of My Mind" in 2019. During the 1990s he was published as a columnist in the Dallas Morning News. He was an avid long-distance runner all over Irving for many years.
Preceded in death by his beloved sons Glenn in 1984, and Scott in 2022, he is survived by high school sweetheart and wife of 69 years, Jo Ann "Jody". He loved his other two sons, and their wives, David and Carol of Frisco; Larry and Anna-Lesa of Southlake; daughter-in-law Angel of Arlington; grandchildren, Jennifer Weiss and husband Brian of Frisco, Daniel Dodson and wife Lea of Keller, Michael Dodson and wife Hilary of Rockwall, Melissa Wilson and husband Travis of Saginaw, Adrienne Hart and husband James of Hutto, Andrew Dodson and wife Victoria of New Jersey.
