Joel Franklin Goodwin, Sr., D.D.S., a resident of Dallas, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at the age of 86. Born September 9, 1924 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, he was the son of Rev. Abb L. and Ethel Broyles Goodwin. Dr. Goodwin served with the U.S. 3rd Army in Europe during World War II. He graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1952, and practiced Dentistry in Dallas for 55yrs retiring in 2007. Dr Goodwin joined First Baptist Church of Dallas in 1949 where he served as a deacon. Preceded in death by his son, Dr. Joel Franklin Goodwin, Jr., D.D.S.; and sibling, Earl, he is survived by his wife Betty Goodwin; daughter, Carolyn Goodwin; son, John Goodwin and wife Julie, all of Dallas; son, Gene Goodwin and wife Laura of Coppell; grandchildren, Alicia, Natalie, Amanda, Allison, Drew and Michael Goodwin; and sibling, Ruth. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Dallas, 1707 San Jacinto Street. The Funeral service will begin at 12 noon in the church sanctuary with Dr. Robert Jeffress officiating. Interment service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with Pastors Alan Lynch and John Cullen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dallas.
