Joe Pat Wicker, 80, of Dallas, Texas and formerly of Mineral Wells and Cleburne, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends on Saturday, January 20th, 2024. A devoted husband, attorney, philanthropist, teacher, mentor and world traveler, Joe was born to Bettye Jo Alexander and James Noel McGovern on December 3rd, 1943, and adopted by Marshall Coleman Wicker when he was six years old. He was lucky to have had three parents. A 1969 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Joe had an accomplished and rewarding career as an attorney in the Houston and Dallas areas of Texas for almost 40 years. He spent much of his career as a corporate lawyer for Exxon Mobil and Morgan Barnett Associates. After retirement in the 1990s, Joe began a second career as a teacher at Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas. He shone brightly and was clearly in his element with respect to the teaching, coaching and care he provided to his fellow teachers and students. He was presented with the 2009 Teacher of the Year award by Dallas Attorneys Auxiliary and the 2010 Teacher of the Year by the Texas Attorneys Auxiliary. He was a generous supporter of many causes near and dear to his heart, including providing education, coaching and support to underprivileged children. Joe was a mentor to many individuals during his life and left his fingerprints on the heart of so many people as he warmed the room with his smile and made many strangers laugh. Joe was known for his impeccable taste and flair for fashion. He developed a love for well-matched clothing while traveling all over the world, including China, England, France, Greece, Italy, Japan and Spain, not to mention the many cruises he enjoyed with his family and friends. Joe is survived by his husband Alfredo Hernandez, his sisters Ann White, Jeannie Moore and Susie Bissell and his nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for 3:00 pm on Friday, the 1st of March, 2024 at the Rienzi Club House, 3500 Fairmount St, Dallas, Texas 75219. There are no gallery images.
