It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe Mercer, age 83, of Irving, Texas. Joe passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. He was born on August 26, 1942, in Lansing, Michigan, the beloved son of Kenneth and Betty Hatt Mercer.

Joe is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 63 years, Cynthia Edwards Mercer; his children, Elise Mercer Stewart and Lance Douglas (Codi) Mercer; his cherished grandchildren, Bass Stewart, Sydney (Donovan) Graham, Sam Stewart, Tatum Mercer, and Reese Mercer; and his great-granddaughter, Ivey Graham.

Joe was a proud resident of Irving, having lived in the same home for over 50 years. A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he held season tickets since 1966. He had a deep appreciation for sushi and Mexican food and a special love for Cozumel, Mexico, a favorite family vacation spot he visited more than 20 times.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Joe went on to serve as Director of Distribution at the Drawing Board in Dallas for 18 years. In 1984, he bought his first Apple computer and became an enthusiastic fan of Steve Jobs and Apple technology. That passion led him to a second career at the Richards Group, where he worked for over 20 years until his retirement.

Joe will be remembered for his generous spirit, warm smile, and the way he could light up a room. He was outgoing, kindhearted, and always ready to help others.

A private memorial service will be held in Cozumel, Mexico, where his family will honor his wishes and spread his ashes in the place he loved most.

Joe's family has is requesting that memorial donations be made to the SPCA of Texas and/or the Alzheimer's Association, causes close to Joe's heart.
