Joan Elaine Harris was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 14, 1941. She was the daughter of Winton B. and Annie Laurie Brewer Watkins. She passed away at the Baylor, Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, Thursday March 30th, at the age of 81 years old. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving with Rev. Ken Branam and Rev. Bob Harper officiating. Family and friends may visit Sunday, April 2nd from 6:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home of Irving - 606 West Airport Freeway Irving, TX 75062. Graveside services will be Monday, April 3rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield, TX. Joan and Bobby Harris were wed on June 25th, 1960 and were married 32 years. They had three children, Debbie, Betsy and Mike. She was a godly and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Joan was known for her passionate loyalty to her family and numerous friends. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel like an instant friend. Words describing Joan include selfless, affectionate, joyful, hilarious and encouraging. Joan was a woman who loved and served the Lord. She was a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving where she served in numerous ministries, including missions, choir, Sunday School, VBS, and Internationals. Joan's hobbies included reading, cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, playing card and board games, and coloring beautiful scriptures to encourage friends and family. She also enjoyed participating in book clubs and reader's theater. Joan was a true and vocal sports fan, especially when the Cowboys played. Joan worked in the school system as a teacher's assistant for several years and at Bud Tatum State Farm for more than 25 years. The family greatly appreciates the love and support of so many during this time. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. We take comfort in knowing that she had a personal relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and that "to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord". Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Winton and Annie Laurie Watkins, her husband of 32 years, Bobby Joe Harris and her sister, Marion Alexander (Ross). Left to cherish her memory are her children; Deborah "Debbie" Psencik (Bill), Elizabeth "Betsy" Howard (Joel) and Michael "Mike" Harris (Tami); grandchildren, Haley (Phil), Cale (Kat), Myca (Chris), Reese, Hunter, Hannah, Austin, and Jacob; Great Grandchildren, Rowan, Wells, Ames and Ophelia and her nieces, Vicki (Mike) and Laura (Alan). Serving as pallbearers will be Cale Howard, Hunter Harris, Austin Harris, Jacob Harris, Joel Howard, Bill Psencik, Phil Arneson, and Chris Beaudin.
