Jan Cannon Evans
Gravitt
Aug 24, 1950 — Jan 5, 2025
Jan Cannon Evans Gravitt, born on August 24, 1950, in Athens Texas, passed away on January 5, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who touched the lives of many with her warmth, humor, and kindness.
Jan was married to the love of her life, John Gravitt, for 20 wonderful years. Together, they resided in Winter Haven, Florida, where they built a life filled with love and joy, and they poured their love and caring into their beloved dogs Tanner and Lucy.
Jan loved working for the Arlington Independent School District in Texas, which she did for twenty years, working at Martin High School, Turning Point Secondary School, and Young Junior High School.
Jan cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren and they knew "Nana" loved them, she told them frequently and hugged them every chance she got. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, going on cruises, and cooking great food. She loved giving gifts. She loved singing and music, and had a great ear for pitch and harmony. She was also a huge fan of all sports, including supporting her daughters in soccer for many years. She loved playing dominos, spades, and other card games, laughing and happy to spend time with her loved ones.
Jan is survived by her children: John Alan Evans (Darcey), Jennifer Evans Hoffman (Todd), Jamie Lynn Evans, Blaine Gravitt (Melissa), and Chris Gravitt (Aleah). She is also survived by her 94-year-old mother, Martha "Mamaw" Cannon, her sister Carolyn Wylie, and her brothers Kyle Cannon (Jackie) and Phil Cannon (Beverly). She was a proud grandmother to 8 grandchildren: Zoe, Jace, Grayson, Emily, Gage, McKenna, Connor, and Kyleigh.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Jan loved animals, and during her life was both a dog and cat mom. Let's hope the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation can make strides towards a cure.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
