James
Walters
Mar 13, 1946 — Apr 1, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James E. Walters, age 80, of Farmers Branch, Texas. James passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Dallas.
He was born on March 13, 1946, in Buffalo, New York, the son of Robert E. and Mary Walters. He graduated from Buffalo's Kensington High School in 1964. While a student at Erie County Technical Institute, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. James served in the Air Force for 11 years – including time in Vietnam in 1968. After returning from war, he met the love of his life, Alice Wood, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were married on June 5, 1971. James's time in the service took the two of them to various locations, including Japan. In 1976 during training in New Jersey, their son John was born. After his Air Force service, the family spent a brief period of time in California, where he worked for Ford Aerospace. In 1984, James and Alice would decide to make Texas their home. Having gained electronics experience in the Air Force and at Ford, he would continue to work as a computer engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation and Texas Instruments. He would retire from that work in 2004. In retirement, he and Alice enjoyed travelling around the state of Texas, visiting family, perusing antique stores, and sampling local fare.
James was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Robert I. Walters, Jerome Walters, William Walters and Barbara Walters Weir. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Alice, and son John, James leaves a loving family to cherish his memory: sister-in-law, Maryann Walters; brother-in-law, Larry Weir and wife Elizabeth; brother-in-law, Marion Courtney; niece Bonnie Elwood and husband Jason; and other family spread across our great nation.
