James Marshall "Jim" Johnson
July 7, 1947 – August 4, 2026
James Marshall "Jim" Johnson passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in the small West Texas town of Fort Davis, Jim carried with him the values of faith, hard work, honesty, quiet determination, and humility, throughout his life. He was, above all else, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family man, and friend.
For more than four decades, Jim shared life with his beloved wife, Emily. Married June 26, 1982, they built a life centered on love, laughter, loyalty, and unwavering commitment through every season of life. Emily was the love of his life and his steadfast companion, and together they created a home filled with faith, family, and unconditional love. Although Jim was an only child, he was welcomed into Emily's large family with open arms and treasured the lifelong relationships he shared with his brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Jim dearly loved his daughter, Julie Marie and was grateful to welcome his son-in-law, Rob, into the family. He found great joy in being Grandpa to his grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan, Christian, and Dakota.
Jim was the proud father of his son, Joseph Robert, whom he loved beyond measure. Whether sharing hunting trips, stock tips, morning coffee, stories, or life's quiet moments, Jim led by example, teaching integrity, kindness, and the value of hard work. The bond between father and son was one of his greatest joys.
Jim devoted 31 years to RSR, Inc., where he built a successful career in sales. It was a profession perfectly suited to his personality. He genuinely enjoyed building relationships with people and earned the respect of customers and coworkers alike through his integrity, kindness, and easygoing nature.
Jim found happiness in life's simple pleasures—sharing his morning coffee on the back veranda with Emily, spending time with family, enjoying a good cigar, traveling, and being outdoors. He had a lifelong passion for the game of golf and treasured the many friendships he made on the course. Some of his happiest days were spent golfing with his buddies, where the laughter, camaraderie, and stories shared were just as important as the score. He never needed extravagance to be happy. Time spent with family, friends, and those he loved was more than enough. His beloved dogs, Pepper Love and Honey B., also brought him great joy and companionship.
Those who knew and loved Jim will remember his quiet strength, gentle smile, steady presence, and generous heart. Even as illness made speaking difficult, his love was never measured by words. It was seen in the way he listened, the way he smiled, and the comfort he brought simply by being present.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Preston N. Johnson; his mother, Clara Johnson; his baby sister Gwen, step-mother Teda Neil Johnson; father-in-law Bobby D. McGraw, mother-in-law Anita Mcgraw and his brother-in-law, Bobby McGraw.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Emily Ann; his daughter, Julie Marie and her husband, Rob; his son, Joseph Robert; his grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan, Christian, and Dakota.
He is also lovingly remembered by James and Carmen McGraw; Denise McGraw; Willy and Valerie McGraw; Joseph and Nora McGraw; Virginia and Kevin McKnight; Nancy and Rob McGraw; cherished nephews and nieces, countless friends, including his golfing buddies; and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and friendship.
While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in a lifetime of cherished memories, enduring love, and the immeasurable blessing of having shared our lives with Jim.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with those you love, share a story, enjoy a morning coffee, play a round of golf with friends, or simply sit beside someone who matters. Jim understood that life's greatest gifts were found in those ordinary moments.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
