Obituary

JACK REID, known to his family as "Pop," returned to his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 10, 2015 around 7:45 PM. He was 92 years old. Jack was born in Polar, Texas on April 24, 1922, graduated from Midland High, and soon joined the Army, serving two tours as a Radio Operator and rifle marksman. He received the Meritorious Unit Medal and a Good Conduct Medal, and served his country in the Pacific region serving time in India, Burma, and China. He was honorably discharged at the end of World War II and became an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA. He met and married Dorothy Elizabeth Casler in Amarillo, Texas. They eventually settled in Irving, Texas where they raised three children and lived for over 55 years. He retired from the federal government after 34 years of service. Jack was a devoted family man, which was evident to everyone around him. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandkids play ball and was a fixture sitting at the various ballparks in his lawn chair, cheering them on and giving some good natured razzing to the umpires. Though he struggled with a variety of health issues, even during times of illness, he remained steadfast in his concern for others around him, family as well as the health professionals caring for him. He was a kind soul and an absolute joy to be around. He was selfless to a fault and left his family a legacy of love, laughter, and many fond memories. Jack Reid was a hero to many and a friend to all. He never met a stranger and always had a smile or a joke to share with anyone he encountered. Many stories abound about his quick wit and sense of humor which was evident even in his last few days on earth. Jack is survived by his son, Randall Reid of Irving; his daughter, Dorette Warms of Grand Prairie; his grandchildren, Randall Reid II of Irving, Marissa Warms of Dallas and Mikell Warms of Grand Prairie; and his cousins Kirby Chandler of Celina and Kenny Chandler of Frisco. Pallbearers are Randall Reid II, Mikell Warms, James Aulbaugh III, Kirby Chandler, Kenny Chandler, and Kelly Warms. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Reid; his son, Darrell Jack Reid; and his brothers Bush Reid and Harold Reid. Funeral services will be held at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving on January 14th. The viewing will be held at 1:00 PM prior to the service at 2:00 PM. Burial with military honors at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Blvd. in Irving will immediately follow the service.
