Jack was born in Kingsville, TX on July 19th, 1930. Raised in Dallas, TX, his life was centered around church activities, Boy Scouts, and sports. While in high school, Jack discovered that he had a talent for drafting. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the US Air Force Reserve. In 1951 he was invited by President Harry Truman to participate in the Korean conflict. He was ultimately sent to Germany to serve in the 497th Recon Tech Squadron. While in Germany, he pitched for the 497th softball team, and lead them to win the Intermural European Championship. Upon discharge in 1952, he returned to Dallas, and began working as a draftsman at LTV. Shortly thereafter, met his wife, Virginia Frances Carpenter, and they were married on October 31th, 1953.
Jack was a valued employee of LTV for 42 years and retired as an Aerospace Engineer. He traveled extensively, and represented both LTV and the US Department of Defense in countries such as Egypt and China. He retired in 1993.
Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who cherished spending time with his family. He was a good friend to many, and enjoyed keeping in touch by phone and Facebook. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending part of every Summer in Colorado with his family. Jack served as a volunteer at Baylor Hospital in Irving for 15 years, where he drove cancer patients to and from their appointments and delivered mail throughout the hospital. He was a favorite volunteer at Christmas time because he didn't require a ladder to decorate the upper branches of the Christmas Trees. After he retired from volunteer work, he was missed by all, especially at Christmas time.
Jack was a long time member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church, where he sang bass in the Sanctuary Choir, and was honored to be chosen as a lifetime deacon.
Jack is survived by wife Virginia (Ginger), daughter Brenda, son Barry, Barry's wife Lisa, granddaughter Hana Chandler and her husband Wesley Chandler, grandson Bo Hornburg, and his wife Chelsea, and great-granddaughter Sofia.
Jack was preceded in death by son Bryan, father Carroll Milam Hornburg, mother Frances Hornburg-Nelson, brother Carroll Francis Hornburg, and sister Jane Hinds.
