Born August 18,1936 in the city of San Antonio, Texas to Hugh Roy and Lee Ellen Flemmons. Raised and loved by step-father H.B. "Shack" Heathcoat. The family lived in and around an area centered on Troy, Texas with several moves in the South Plains region. After graduating from Troy High School, Bud enlisted in the Navy. He served proudly in the years between the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He was assigned to an Anti Submarine Warfare squadron providing avionics support for fixed and rotary wing aircraft. After a Pacific Cruise aboard CVA-37, the USS Princeton, an Essex class aircraft carrier, he continued advancing in his knowledge of avionics, preparing to become an instructor. His service was a point of pride for the rest of his life. He met his future wife, Alva Loy nee Patton of Brownfield, Texas, before his discharge, and they married in 1960. Bud took a position with General Telephone working in various towns with ever increasing responsibilities. Their first Son, Terry Hugh was born 1962 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Their second son, Mark Lynn was born 1966 in San Angelo, Texas. In 1971, Bud and Loy moved the family to Irving, Texas, where Bud prepared a generation of telephone employees to advance from the electromechanical to digital era. The couple had a rule that they would attend the closest Southern Baptist church to the house, so on the third Sunday after the move to Irving, the family attended and then joined what would become known as North Irving Baptist Church; the church has been a center point of Bud and Loys life. After retiring from G.T.E, Bud went on to work for D.S.C. in Plano. Upon completing his time as a technical instructor at D.S.C., Bud worked for the U.S. Postal Service, servicing forklifts and conveyor belts in the bulk processing center near DFW airport. Their first son, Terry married Beverly Kay nee Damewood in 1984. Terry and Bev have one son James. Their second son, Mark, married Dawn Leigh nee Horsley in 1986. Mark and Dawn have two daughters, Lauren and Briana. Lauren married Wade Toler in 2014, Wade brought a son, Bryce, into the marriage, and the first great grandchild into the Roy family.
