Horace Jones, 86, a resident of Irving since 1970, died Sunday, April 12, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 13, 1933 in Newlin, Texas, he was the son of the late Mack Jones and Mary Delong Adkins Jones. He graduated from Memphis High School in Memphis, Texas, picked cotton in West Texas and as young man and worked in the oil business for approximately 11 years after high school. He attended two years of business college and later four years of computer programming. He attended Rutherford Metropolitan School of Business, El Centro College, Richland College and Brookhaven College and also completed a Toastmasters International Speech Training. He married Florence Katherine Scarborough November 29, 1956 in Clayton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2015. He was a computer programmer for K-Mart Insurance for many years and later operated Jones Remodeling. He has been a very active member of the Elks Lodge in Irving for over fifty years, serving many roles including Exalter Ruler and Secretary for several years. He is survived by a son Billy Randell Jones and wife Anna; Billys son Charles Jones and wife Desiree and their children Joshua, Chyenne, Baylee, Bradlie, and Katherine; Billys daughter Stephanie Levin and husband Jacob and their children Shawn and Jamie; and Billys daughter Kara Stanton and her son Daniel; Also survived by Horaces daughter Terri Lynn Bennett and husband Harold and their children Jason Bennett and his wife Keitha and their children Finlee and Lennon; Terris daughter Michelle Bennett and her children Christopher and Chloe; Terris daughter Crystal Haney and her husband Charlie and their children Draven and Ashton. Horace is survived by a granddaughter that was raised as a daughter, Sandi Hastings and husband Jason; Sandis son Denis Pitt and his children Kadenn Pitt and Adelene Pitt; and Sandis son Donovan Pitt. Other survivors include three nephews, Buddy Gene Rawls and wife Sheila, Dan Hoggatt and wife JoAnn and Bobby Jack Jones, Jr.; and a niece Lois Lee Patterson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Kay in 2015; his son, Ronny Mack Jones in 2019; a brother Bobby Jack Jones, and two sisters, Willie Mae Rawls and Ima Jo Hoggatt Due to the COVOD-19 Pandemic viewing with no more than 10 people at a time will be from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home.
