Obituary

HELEN GEORGIA WILSON. Born April 21, 1916. Passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010, in Culpeper, Virginia, at age 94, surrounded by her daughter, granddaughter and friends. Helen grew up in Dallas, Texas and married Frederick William Wilson in 1935. They had 60 wonderful years together that produced two children, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She had an active role in raising them all and is considered the ruling matriarch of the family to this day. Grandma, also known as GG by the great grandchildren, will be sorely missed. Helen worked in a defense plant during World War II, while her husband went off to fight in the Pacific theatre. She then went on to work as a private secretary for 40 years at Industrial Adhesive in Dallas. She was always the ultimate authority on spelling and grammar for the entire family. Helen had an incredible sense of humor and her house was always where the party was and where the kids (and adults) hung out. No one ever went hungry, bored or lonely if they were anywhere near 1609 Cooper Dr. in Irving, her and Fred's home for 45 years. She sponsored many Camp Fire Girl and Horizon girl events and drove kids around her entire life, despite her full time job. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irving for more than 40 years and will be sorely missed by her friends there. Helen spent the last five years in Northern Virginia, near her daughter Jill and her granddaughter, Kira, in Virginia. She is survived by two children, Jerry Eugene Wilson, of Ruidoso, New Mexico and Jill Wilson Lander, of Marshall, Virginia, four grandchildren, Ronnie Wilson of Cancun, Mexico, Michael Wilson of Bozeman, Montana, Terrie Wilson Flinn of San Antonio, Texas and Kira Wilson Lander, of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Her great grandchildren, William and Trevor Flinn, live in San Antonio and Colin Wilson Felch in Dallas. She is also survived by her sister, Tina Wilson, of Mason, Texas and her sister-in-law, Doris Jones, of Irving, Texas. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway, Irving, TX. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11 at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brad Carroll officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
