Gilda Nogueira Walton shuffled off this mortal coil November 4, 2018 surrounded by her three children, Robert Olivieri, Claudia Day and Daylon Patrick Walton. She is survived by her brother, Paulo Goulart and her sister, Henriqueta Heilborn as well as 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She joins her beloved husband, Daylon Lynn Walton who proceeded her in death in 2005. A life-long teacher, she spent much of last 30 years of her life caring for newborn babies at Montessori and Primrose schools in the Las Colinas area. Born in to privilege in 1936, a native daughter of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Gilda was fiercely, unapologetically and aggressively Brazilian in every way - loud, brown, passionate, hilarious, and an excellent confectioner - you were never a stranger in her company. They say opposites attract, and fifty-four years ago, she met the love of her life Daylon a traditional, conservative Baptist Petroleum Engineer and A&M grad from Stephenville, Texas and gave up her socialite life to become a housewife in Irving, Texas in 1968.
A die-hard sports fan, her family recalls many times her yelling pointers and coaching tips at the TV during every soccer, Texas Ranger, or Dallas Cowboys game. She would watch any sport be it diving, golf, gymnastics or racecars, be it amateur or professional, with the same unbridled enthusiasm. The only thing she loved more besides sports, were her blessed babies, she cherished each moment she had with them and over the decades built up a "baby care" database in her head that was truly remarkable.
Mama Gilda was our greatest fan, our most stalwart cheerleader, and a tireless comforter of babies everywhere. She will be dearly missed not only by her family, but the hundreds of children (and their grateful families) she helped raise over the years.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
